Coal

HG Systems has been involved in the installation of Coal Preparation Plant Process Control Systems for over 30 years, for the then Nation Coal Board. As the plants got bigger and more complex HG developed its own computer based control system with colour graphics, a truly unique feature in the early 1980′s.

HG Systems completed at total of 9 plants for the NCB, the largest being a twin stream plant capable of processing 3000 tons of Coal per hour. This plant had Primary, Secondary and Tertiary washing streams with a complex Dense Medium and Recovery system. In total the plant, including the Filter Press Plant, had 835 drives.  The Control Systems enabled Item, Group and Plant starting facilities. Under Plant Start conditions all selected drives started in sequence with speed of starting controlled by monitoring of instantaneous current.

The unique nature and flexibility of the control system ensured that HG Systems found an accelerated route into the American market where a further 7 systems were installed. Our control system was readily adapted for use for Large Coal and Material Handling processes. Furthermore, its ability to control a large number of drives at any one time facilitated the installation of the Process Control System into a number of UK Power Stations. Some of these are in operation although nearly 15 years old.

In more recent times we have upgraded the system at Kellingley Coal Preparation Plant and supplied Material Handling Systems for Biomass and FibroFuel Plants. Our technical experts and engineers understand the Coal Processing Systems and the requirements of all associated Control Systems. This ensures that we deliver a solution that is appropriate for the installation. Our experience ensures our clients worry free efficiency.
